The Vanity Project is then-Barenaked Ladies frontman Steven Page's first solo album, released on June 21, 2005 through Flagship Recordings. With one exception, all songs on the album were co-written by Page and longtime collaborator Stephen Duffy.

Background Edit

Most, if not all, of the songs on The Vanity Project were originally written for Barenaked Ladies around the Maroon era. By the time the band recorded their next album Everything to Everyone in 2003, however, it had been decided that songwriting would be restricted to band members, leaving an album's worth of songs without an outlet.[1]

Though the album was marketed as a Steven Page solo album, Steve has said that, at the time at least, he envisioned The Vanity Project as a "band" composed of him and Duffy.
